The Brian Center of Durham’s Rehab Department is offering Fall Prevention in-services in November to continue to educate staff, residents and families that falls can be prevented if risk factors are identified early on and right interventions are evaluated and implemented.
- Physical therapy will evaluate balance, strength and flexibility. The ability to safely ambulate on all surface levels ; including stairs, the ability to turn and reach will also be assessed.
- Occupational therapy will include assessment of the environment; including lighting, surfaces, obstacles, footwear and any adaptive equipment needed as part of the evaluation process.
- Speech therapy will also be involved to evaluate the patients cognitive functions, compensatory strategies and problem solving abilities.
By working together, the risk of falls can be prevented!
